Social Watch, a non-governmental network, argues that the world’s wealthiest countries have made a very little progress in fulfilling their pledges in confrontation with poverty. The network of more than 400 civil society organizations in many countries launched a report on poverty and deprivation, coinciding with the G8 summit at Heiligendamm, Germany.

According to the report, most developing countries continue to receive minimal foreign aid while struggling under the burden of foreign debt and facing unfair trade conditions. Moreover, the world’s most powerful countries are said to have failed to live up to their promises. Social Watch believes the poorest countries are ever farther away from satisfying the basic minimum needs of their citizens. Jens Martens, of the coordinating committee of Social Watch says that unless the pace of progress is substantially speeded up, the average level of social development in most poor countries will decline.

Roberto Bissio, Social Watch coordinator, stressed that poor countries are also being held back by unfavorable trade conditions, as the WTO (World Trade Organization) pressures them to reduce import tariffs. Meanwhile, many poor countries continue to lose billions of dollars to serving their External debts, which mean that the funds sent as aid go back to the donor countries as dept payment

Cecilia Alemany of the Social Watch secretariat told Sudan news agency, “We are not asking the G8 to do some thing for development countries, we came here to pressure words leader of leading countries to pay attention to development countries.”

US President George W. Bush opposes limiting global warming to two degrees.
During his speech in White house recently he rejected a German proposal regarding global warming targeting to prevent an increase in global temperature of more than 2 degrees Celsius.

Also, Bush Called countries to hold a series meeting, to set a global emission goal. Each country then would have to decide how to achieve the goal.

The treatment of Climate change runs counter to our overall position and crosses red lines in term of what we can not agree to …we can go given our fundamental opposition to German position. According to. white house document on 4 may 2007.

In an interview with Britain’s Guardian newspaper on the eve of the summit, Blair said he was convinced that he could persuade Bush to sign up to a “substantial cut” in greenhouse gas emissions, in line with U.N.-backed targets.

Mean While John Coequyt of Green peace USA descries Bush’s new police in Climate change as desperate attempt to head off start of international negotiations on the next stage of emission reductions after 2012

And he added that this is slap in the face of US, s key allies, Germany which has rightly made climate a central issue in the G8 this year and has put the emission cuts science demands into the draft G8 Communiqué.

In the mean time Friends of the Earth organization started collecting signature and statement from American, apologizing to nations participating in G8 Summit for Bush behavior concerning his new strategy of Climate change.

The G8 talks in Heiligendamm June 6-8 are expected to focus on seven -Kyoto Protocol targets before the climate pact expires in 2012.

Environmental non-governmental organizations have mixed feelings about the deal G8 leaders reached on climate change. While some believe that some progress has been made, others consider the summit declaration worthless.

Antonio Hill, Oxfam senior adviser welcomed that G8 leaders have endorsed the UN process to tackle climate change and agreed to negotiate a post-2012 frame work within this forum. But he added that poor countries, practically those in Africa, will not be able to bear the burdens that climate change brings.

Tear Fund, a UK relief and development organization based in the UK, Says they are disappointed because of the failure of all G8 countries to agree to a clear target to keep temperature rise well below 2 degrees above historic levels.

Andy Atkins, advocacy director for Tear Fund said: ˜The G8 leaders have jumped some important hurdles but there is along way to finish line. He added: ˜It is significant they have agreed to start talks in Bali in December and conclude them by 2009 under the authority of the UN. It is also important that the Communiqué notes the commitment by the EU, Japan and Canada to the goal of at least 50% global emissions cuts by 2050. This will put pressure on the other countries.

The German non-governmental organization ˜Netzwerk Freies Wissenâ rejected final declaration of G8, and said the paper is going in the wrong direction in terms of climate change. In a similar vein, Greenpeace USA argues that deal is “clearly not enough to prevent dangerous climate change”. Daniel Kittler of Greenpeace International added: “Governments failed to commit to what science tells us is necessary. They must
Now urgently do so at the United Nations.”

He continued that the leaders, of the world’s wealthiest nations, Failed to take into account that reducing CO2 emissions by 50 percent, Compared to 1990 levels, by 2050 is not a negotiable diplomatic point, but Rather a physical reality. He also said that, we learned from the last 15 years avoluntary measures simply don’t work.

The climate change risk has recently become a top item on the political agenda globally. Civil society organizations, such as the WWF (formerly Word Wide Fund for Nature) demand from Governments in power to do some thing for the future of the plant.

Global warming could have various consequences, including rising sea levels, reduction of biodiversity, changing crops patterns, renewed spread of tropical diseases or the reduced availability of water.

The first collective response to mitigate climate change was the Kyoto protocol, signed in 1997. Extensive public awareness now makes is very likely that a successor to his international agreement, involving a large number of countries, will be agreed on in the coming years.

The leaders assembling for G8 summit are confronted by an ever-growing mountain of scientific evidence about the danger about global warming.

As summit host Chancellor Merkel declared in the German parliament lately, she emphasizes energy efficiency and technological cooperation with emerging economies: ‘Our goal is to identify solutions to the greatest challenges facing the whole of humanity more than ever before.’

In the field of climate protection, Merkel is convinced that the industrialized countries must act as trailblazers. Only then will the less developed economics follow: ‘Otherwise we have no chance to combat climate change.’
US President George W. Bush opposes limiting global warming to two degrees. During his speech at the White House recently, he rejected a German proposal regarding global warming targeting to prevent an increase in global temperature of more than 2 degrees Celsius.
Instead, Bush called on countries to hold a series of meetings to set a global emissions goal. Each country then would have to decide how to achieve the goal.

In an interview with Britain’s Guardian newspaper on the eve of the summit, Prime Minister Tony Blair said he was convinced that he could persuade Bush to sign up to a “substantial cut” in greenhouse gas emissions, in line with U.N.-backed targets.

International agency Oxfam today warned that failure among G8 countries to provide clear leadership on climate change would cause confusion and unacceptable delays as poor countries would bear the greatest burden of global warming.

However, the G8 works by consensus, not majority voting. So far, all the evidence suggests that once again the United States has been working at weakening all drafts of the summit declaration.

I’m not sure I slept very well on the plane, because I awoke feeling tired. My feet are somewhat swollen, which is a terrible thing before a day of reaching. At least I didn’t feel as sweaty during the night, thanks to god for all.

I’ve decided that day was my introduction to Berlin. The plane had arrived shortly after 9 o’clock morning in the tegel airport, so I wandered around the central Berlin area.

Ms Rita kurzbach programmer assistance for international institiute for journalism in Berlin picked me and my friend charels who accompany me from Sudan up to the guest house.

I made contact with my family earlier in the evening. I forgot the place where I live, unfortunately, so had call them back yester day evening to describes to them my first day and place where I live but also I couldn’t. At least they know that I’m living and that they’re willing to here from me as soon as possible.

I really surprised by the system of Germans in every aspect of life any things is organized and calculated and people are all rushing around, I hope to see more of the city in the coming days.

Back to Khartoum

I don’t know how to express my feeling to my family and friend in Khartoum I really miss them so much.

My family especially my mother, Brothers and Sisters I longing to see you as soon as possible. My colleges in Sudan news Agency Suna I miss our chatting over afternoon coffee.

My Beloved friend in YMCA institution, Hajer, Mona, Momen, Mojahed, Mohammed, Awadya, Victorya, Kamil, Murtada, and all other Iam moving to hearing from you.

My Guest House in Berlin
The guest house of International Institute for Journalism is located in jungerhide in central Berlin, this are is so quite and calm also it is green as Berlin elsewhere you turn your eyes you see green.

Every participant has given apartment which is include, single room. Small kitchen, bathroom and saloon.

In addition they gave us monthly public transportation ticket, Metro bus, U=ban, S=ban this system is seem to me very strange as it is my first journey to Germany. But I am getting use to it.

He also said that, we learned from the last 15 years a voluntary measures simply don’t work.
